It was still dark when we left Adam’s place in Germany, just over the border from Luxembourg. Frank drove for the first portion of the journey, all morning, pretty much all the way to Dresden. Then I took over for a bit, taking us into Poland and a good chunk of the way to Wrocław. Finally, Adam had a go and we trundled all the way to the small Polish town of Jarosław, half an hour’s drive from the border with Ukraine.
The weather (thankfully) behaved itself and there were no repeats of the blizzard conditions from earlier in the week. The drive was fun, loads to talk about, tunes to play. Having three drivers instead of two (or one!) made a big difference. This would be my fourth journey like this across Germany and all the way to the border with Ukraine, and not having to drive all the way from Durham certainly made the trip a lot less of a mission.
We arrived in Jarosław just after 11pm, checked into a little hotel, hidden away off the main drag. Everything was covered in snow, a winter wonderland.
We each had a celebratory beer before crashing out for the night. We had another early start in the morning… we had no idea how long it would take to cross the border at Krakovets’.
