And So It Begins

Whoosh! It’s all go now: up at the crack of dawn, finish packing, train to Newcastle, metro to Newcastle Airport, up up and away… to Amsterdam, one hour layover, onto another plane for about 45 minutes and down into Luxembourg. Those who know me know that I’m not the biggest fan of flying and will take an alternative route if available, but because of the weather, we had a small window to get this done, before the long range forecast was telling us that everything was going to get a lot colder and a lot more snowy.

Anyway, I was picked up at the airport by Major Adam Marchant-Wincott (retired) and his mate Frank “The Tank”, who’d be my co-pilots for the journey to Ukraine. I got to Adam’s house, the van was half-loaded with Lego, and all kinds of humanitarian aid: blankets, coats, hoodies: you name it. The presents looked fantastic: all individually wrapped by Adam’s wife Ali and their daughter Lottie. We finished filling the van, Ali made us sandwiches to take with, and then it was time to get our heads down: we had an early start in the morning… these presents weren’t going to deliver themselves!
