Keep on Truckin’

So it was a early start on the Tuesday morning, and one hell of a drive, all the way from the Texaco services in Belgium to near Medyka on the Polish / Ukrainian border.

We set off just before 8am, which felt like 7am as we lost an hour when we crossed the Channel. Three hours and one minute later, we dropped into the Shell garage on the A67 in the Netherlands. Another four hours and 14 minutes on the road and another stop at a Serways services in Germany. Then it was a non-stop drive of five hours and 41 minutes, taking us up to 10pm as we dropped into the KFC outside Wrocław in Poland. For anyone who didn’t watch the livestream, I answered a hell of a lot of trivia questions!

That’s over 13 hours of driving, and we still had a way to go! Hitting the road again we drove east, pressing on until 1am, at which point Bear took over and drove through the night to Przemyśl, the city on the border closest to the crossing at Medyka.

We arrived at our destination — a house outside Przemyśl that Gordon the medic had been using as a base with some of the other Medyka volunteers — at 5.30am. I was absolutely exhausted. After unloading the supplies destined for the border, I set my alarm for 8am and got some much-needed kip.
